Doctor Robotnik makes good on his promise of being home by Christmas - it just took a little longer than expected, and home turned out to be someplace he hadn't considered.

Post Sonic 1 movie fic and Christmas/Holiday themed! I adore this one so much, I've re-read it so many times. The Doctor makes his way back to earth slightly before Christmas and ends up on Stone's new doorstep. The mortifying ordeal of being dependent on your former Agent and navigating how to handle the joy and boundaries of your boss you've greatly missed unexpectedly returning.

"I was actually happy when I found out what had happened to you. I looked you up against my better judgment, fully expecting you to have moved on immediately. Agent Stone, consummate professional, busy making lattes for some other genius." Stone snorted. "My number one attribute, huh?" "You know it. Only reason I kept you around," Robotnik said quietly.

Post Sonic 1 movie fic. Stone ends up imprisoned and Robotnik makes his way back to Earth with a side of rescue. I adore this one a whole lot and the Stone POV throughout is gorgeous.

You have that fanfic or series that takes a passing fandom interest and then once you read it, that interest is now stuck in your brain forever because of how profound an impact it had on you? That's this series and why my Stobotnik spiral really went into play.

It starts pre-film canon and goes through both both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, then creates its own path for post Sonic 2. It provides such in-depth characterization and growth to both Stone and Robotnik as people and their relationship, its beyond amazing, especially how it weaves into the films as well. Total series is 286k words and my god, it is so, so, so, so, so worth the read. And the 16 parts allow for pacing and breaks.

The Doctor works himself to pieces each time he completes a project. His Agent puts him back together. A reflection on the creation-destruction process, homemade bread, and the intricate rituals of it all. (a.k.a. take an allegory, beat it dead.)

Pre-Canon / No Sonic movie direct interactions. Do you have that fic, that after you read makes you just sit there because of how profound and deep it hit you in your core? That you just sit there in wondered silence as you try and wrap your brain around it? That's this fic, the amount of pieces from the various chapters I want to quote and keep with me forever. The codependency between these two tied into the creative process of the doctor and its aftermath, beyond amazing.

In the process of removing the master emerald from Robotnik, Knuckles and Tails accidentally knock it into Stone's orbit. Or - in which Stone gets a turn with the emerald after Robotnik, and the two them have some time to chew the scenery (and also take out so many G.U.N. goons), because we deserved to see them fight side-by-side longer.

Sonic 2 canon divergence, Stone gets to take a spin with the emerald. Love to see our Agent get a turn to be awesome and deadly.

Before he even met Doctor Robotnik, Agent Stone understood the undeniable rules of being his, and truly, he was his. There was a sense of belonging that came with being around the Doctor as a whole, and it was not one of compassion or comfort like one may feel in a domestic partnership. No, from the briefing he had been given on Robotnik, Stone understood that he would no longer be property of the government once he was assigned to him. Instead, he would be Robotnik’s and Robotnik’s alone, no longer his own, yet nothing to Robotnik either. To the Doctor, he was an object to use and dispose of as he saw fit, and most days, even less. That was rule one.

Pre-Canon / No Sonic movie direct interactions. This fic has amazing pacing and growth. Starts with Stone beginning to work for the Doctor and how they change and grow as his time in this role extends on. This is a beautiful fic that I've given several re-reads. This has some amazing banter and attitude from them both.

Robotnik's very first romantic attachment left him bruised and apathetic towards the concept as a whole, warping his own perception of what it means to take part in any kind of emotional relationship. Thirty years later, he takes a chance on Agent Stone who, with patient hands and raw physical attraction, slowly coaxes Robotnik out of his cybernetic shell and into a whole new world of surprisingly mundane exchanges. Or: that one series where they date like normal people rather than the top secret government assets that they are while making a mockery of the entire country.

Pre-Canon / No Sonic movie direct interactions. I adore this series and how the author portrays Stone and Robotnik. How they growt throughout their relationship and the way they communicate and play off each other is wonderful. Part 5 is Christmas/holiday themed as well.

This is about a lot of things. This is about names and what they mean, this is about the weight of inheritance, this is about bakeries and newspapers and coffee. About homes and lawns and demolished grain silos. This is about a building in Northwest Oregon. This is about Robotnik. This is about Stone. Alone together. or: in less flowery language, its a series of snapshots of robotnik's lab across the years. the way robotnik used to be very alone in it, and the way he eventually wasn't.

Pre-Canon / No Sonic movie direct interactions. This is such a uniquely structured fic, bouncing through multiple times and building the history of the land where the lab that the Doctor works in will / does stand and how they come to work together

Stone's primary objective in life is to keep Robotnik safe and alive, at any cost. Time to find out what the universe is charging him.

Sonic 2 fic with Canon Divergence. Time travel and loops where Stone is determined to ensure the doctor is safe and he can protect him. The time loops and travels are done in such an amazing way as Stone keeps trying, trying, trying. Has a happy ending.

A Doctor for Christmas: The (Not A Hallmark Movie) by EmperorHaruhi

im writeing a fic for plot swap

so the plot swap post has turned into an entire fic, with a plot chart and everything, this is going to be the basic outline for the difference in au vs cannon considering canon color crew plus purple minus orange are going to be in the au. call this the character chart. if you want to go into the au blind when i post it ignore this

Alan Becker, aka the creator, dad

actually a good stick dad, and cared for them as best he could, currently mia after the hollow heads watched him collapse and be taken away by people. the hollows are doing everything they can to find him.

Victim Becker, aka the firstborn, Vic, was an accidental creation

created rocket corp in an attempt to find the creator, runs it not to dissimilar to a mafia, ruthless with anyone perceived as being in the way, over protective of his brothers has mercs watching them near constantly so nothing can happen to them. considers his siblings an ace up his sleeve if the cards are down considering there powers are much stronger then his.

the chosen one Becker, aka the second born, cho, tco, one, created to give vic someone to spend time with

after a brief stent of destruction after alans disappearance and the pc shutting down now spends most of his time either training second or keeping the home feeling like home, the only sibling actually copeing instead of just trying to fix the problem, he and alan worked on his temper but after alans disappearance its almost as bad as when he was born.

the dark lord Becker, aka the third born, dark tdl, created to give cho someone to spar with

the most laid back after Alan's vanishing, but handling it worse then cho, has not processed what's happening at all, takes his bursts of rage out on any website that bugs him even slightly, vic encourages this, spends most days tearing the web apart trying to locate any sign of alan or sneaking second away from the mercs to go mess around in the city.

the second coming becker, aka the youngest child, sec, tsc, orange, also a complete accident

having only been around for two weeks before his dads vanishing act he blames himself for it, hasnt met any of his friends yet and is lonely, clinging to his brothers for interaction, has really bad social anxiety yet always running away from his babysitters to try and make friends, most of his brothers fear as a result of there dad vanishing has focused onto him, resulting in them being over protective. powers activated when the pc shut down, has a very basic grasp on them but they tend to react to his emotions without his imput.

also suspicious of rocket corp and is also better at keeping her head down then her husband, divorced navy when purple was six and her then husband broke their kids arm, marryed MT when purple was eight, works as a software engineer, her company is offten hired by rocket corp. her illness was treatable because of vic digging into hospital record and other such databases in an attempt to find alan, leading to her actually getting a diagnosis and eventual recovery. she can no longer work in the field and works from home most days, refuses to let MT get a job so she can quit, she likes her work too much and she knows he adores spending so much time with the kids.

marigold, aka gold, big sister

unaware of her parents worry's, is two years older then purple and wants to be a professional fighter like her dad, didn't die because the hollows had gone to the fair before them, and sec had gone in when the error was made but instead of dyeing his powers teleported him to freedom. dosent have any freinds because her energy scares most people away, she dosnt mind. she asks too many questions in too public places for her parents liking, shes going to get into something she cant get out of one of these days.

purple, aka little brother

very aware of his parents concerns, also doesn't have any friends so spends most of the time with his sister, interested in the use of icons outside of their apps, aka one of the things rocket corp specializes in, try's to keep his head down but he's got a strong sense of justice that doesn't like keeping quite

SO i begin with Red Shoe TheoryTM

Red Shoe Theory is basically the idea that Izuku’s trademark red shoes are a specific brand made for quirkless people.

The doctor in episode one explains that quirkless people are biologically different than quirked people. one of the differences is they have a second toe joint in their toes. a very specific and odd thing to include, but go off i guess

then we see izuku’s ugly ass (affectionate) red shoes. he wears the same damn shoes since he was a kid to literally current day. no one else in the series has this type of shoe and he wears them with everything.

theory is basically bc of the toe joint, they have to wear specific shoes to accommodate.

now: this is kinda a dumb theory by itself. however, i lied when i said only one character in the series wears them.

there is two.

introducing the Shigaraki was Quirkless theory.

HandJob McGee is the only other character that wears these red ass shoes. but they’re not just red. they’re fucking identical to izuku’s. again, not super compelling at first.

until you take in account the UA traitor, Aoyama Yuuga.

he was quirkless. his parents, rich and stupid, asked AFO to give him a quirk. he gives him Naval Laser and now basically has his family enslaved and forces him to be the traitor.

something odd about aoyama’s quirk (besides that is fucking stupid) is that it hurts him. not in a “worked out too much” way but in a “can barely use it” way. he gets better with training but he can barely handle using it for a few seconds without being in pain and he is RELIANT on support gear, something people with quirks are taught not to rely on as it is a handicap in case their gear is destroyed. he has no choice and has to wear it because otherwise the fuckin bitch leaks n shit

there are two other characters who’s quirks hurt them like this. izuku and his liquified bones, who we also know was quirkless

and shiggy.

all the characters we have seen that have toxic quirks have a natural immunity or defense against it to protect them (IE: kacchan and fire, mina and acid etc)

however, shigaraki is literally flaking away. we also know that he was originally Tenko shimura and had black hair and black eyes. now tho, he has white hair and red eyes and his skin is so dry he scratches constantly.

his quirk is decay.

his body is slowly decaying itself as a reaction to the quirk because it’s not supposed to be there. he’s basically turning albino.

now. this i feel like is too obvious to not be canon but *shrugs*

AFO manipulated and groomed baby Tenko bc he’s a petty ass bitch

AFO forced decay onto bb tenko, causing him to accidentally kill his family, and be the one to find him after to “save him”, and it was planned every step of the way.

So this is easier just to go in order of tragic events.

Yoichi Shigaraki, first user of One for All, brother of All For One, so obviously All For One is a shigaraki.

Nana Shimura. Seventh user of one for all and All Might’s beloved mentor.

tenko, fucking accidentally kills his entire family bc how was he supposed to know better.

afo, is immortal and rich so has people watching to make sure no one gets close to the boy and he swoops in to “save him”

proceeds to groom him and traumatize him by making him wear his fucking dead family’s hands on his body to constantly remind him he is a killer and evil and afo will be the only one to be kind and care about him

afo brainwashes tenko into forgetting what happened and who he used to be (through grooming, gaslighting, etc) and now he only knows himself as tomura shigaraki.

plans to make him basically the successor to afo and be what kills one for all/ all might is sick poetic fuckery of all might being killed by his mentors grandson.

(also adds a reason as to why nana is the only female user. to show that she is important to the story beyond just being a past user/mentor)

now this next theory has less of a hold bc of lack of evidence but i personally head canon it to be true.

Dad for One

basically. midoriya izuku’s dad, midoriya hisashi is actually AFO.

he left when izuku was diagnosed as quirkless which could be considered hypocritical considering he sought out tenko but i think afo is a dramatic bitch and wanted to fuck with all might but ALSO

tenko is older than izuku by at least a few years, so he would have already had that plan in motion and may have stuck around just to see if izuku developed a quirk worth stealing or not and decided he wasn’t worth it. or could have also just not been able to get away with using him bc of inko and the bakugous. or a little of all that idk. (i GUESS it’s possible that he also actually did care about izuku and didn’t want to hurt him but i meeeannnnn idk man i wasn’t there)

BUT BESIDES THAT

* horikoshi has confirmed that izuku’s dad would be revealed before the end of the series and we kinda don’t have many options left here (at least i saw something that said that at one point, could be bs but STILL his dad is one of the last mysteries of the show)

* afo’s fuckin face is destroyed so we can’t see any resemblance BUT Yoichi looks INCREDIBLY similar to izuku

* it honestly makes the story super fucking interesting?? like izuku is the son of afo, born quirkless, given the quirk one for all by all might, all might basically becomes dad might, and izuku is the one to take his father down with the help of the previous users (including his uncle yoichi) in an incredible poetic justice loose end tying satisfying ass ending

i also wanna add that the Dabi is Touya Todoroki theory being canon gives credibility that this story has a thing for the family drama plot line and why wouldn’t they use it in the main characters storyline?

in conclusion, i held my wife hostage for a solid hour and a half to explain these to her, not dissimilar to this meme;

OKAY, so basically, i already kinda headcanon the whole 'i told schlatt i was pregnant' thing as canon, so it just kinda follows that, but instead of accidental fireworks abortion, the baby ends up surviving that (the other parent died during the war or smth). so ctubbo's gotta deal with being president and trying to rebuild l'manburg while also dealing with being pregnant. and cranboo's there trying to be his usual loyal minutesman self, but he's a little bit more adamant about getting ctubbo to rest and take care of himself.

they end up getting married in the hospital after ctubbo's gone into labor cause there's a strict 'only family members in the room' rule (contrived but very fun i think). the baby ends up being a little duck guy that ctubbo names benson.

then they have the green festival, cranboo's revealed a traitor, they all prep for doomsday. and on doomsday ctubbo convinces cranboo to take benson so he can go fight with ctommy. cranboo's super nervous but agrees, and hangs back from all the destruction.

after it's all over, ctubbo goes to make snowchester and cranboo actually joins him instead of running off to the artic, and eventually they bring michael home too

Ah yes, here are the head canons no one asked for, but Im hyper fixated on these four so here we go!

Backstories:

Ogron; [I actually had a dream that he had a boyfriend and I accidentally aliven’t him so we’re working with that] I believe that long before magic was erased earth had its own version of red fountain, specifically because other beings tended to look down on earth creatures. I believe in his youth, his father replaced his mother with a cruel fairy, who ended up killing his mother,. Though he couldn’t prove it was her. She treated him poorly, and as soon as he could escape he did. He then met his lover, and him and his boyfriend both attended this red fountain knock off school, but somewhere along the way a few rogue/evil fairies attacked the school and his bf was caught in the cross fire. Losing his mother and lover to fairies, Ogron hatred solidified and his hunt began.

Gantlos; Gantlos was actually also a victim of rogue fairies, but he was too young to witness the destruction itself, and only grew up in the aftermath. He lived in a very cold region where winter was long and harsh, and slowly watched his mother freeze/starve to death along with his siblings. He had tried to keep everyone alive after his mother’s demise, but the young ones just weren’t strong enough. This led to a magical awakening of sorts and he ended up causing miles of destruction in his grief. A fairy who was the daughter of one of the ones that destroyed his home town found him and took him in. Everything was starting to warm up, until he overheard a meeting in which his home’s destruction was mentioned. He immediately confronted the fairies, and though the young fairy tried to save him the anguish, he found out the truth and in a fit of rage decimated them all.

Anagan; Anagan has a much more mild backstory. He grew up in a town where nature was the center of everything. It was practically worshipped, so nature magic was looked up upon. He wasn’t exactly an outcast, but his lack of ability in the natural magic made him fall short of his social status. One night he was walking the trail of the forest when he heard a few people scheming in the woods to destroy an ancient magical tree and attempt to harvest its magic. He tried to intervene himself but wasn’t quick enough. The tree was destroyed, in order to prevent the bandits from doing anymore damage, he quickly absorbed the magic himself. By the time the people of town found out it was too late, he tried to tell everyone what happened but the nature fairies blamed him, and this the whole town. No matter how much he tried to explain, the evidence was against him. He was run out of town by the fairies. He resented them for not believing him, and that’s where it started for him, though the actual taking of wings didn’t start until after meeting the others

Duman: his powers are rare and desirable. Most shapeshifters are reclusive and try not to blend with other magic species for fear of exploitation. When he was young he ventured too far out towards a neighboring village. His mother caught up with him, scolding him for going so far out alone. They were heading back when a fairy stopped them. She attacked his mother and while distracted, Duman was taken. He was sold to a rich sisterhood of fairies who mistreated him frequently and displayed him like a circus animal, he was frequently forced to overuse his transformation abilities, and beaten if he couldn’t comply. They publicly humiliated him and paraded him around. One night , Ogron was at a gala, he was there looking for fairies he felt were unworthy of their wings. When the fairies arrived with Duman and began their gaudy display of him, Ogron knew he had to save him. He followed them home and once all had turned in for the night, he began destroying them one by one. He found Duman locked in a cage in a basement, after releasing him, they searched for the fairy that had attacked his mother, and Duman destroyed her.

On your last post you said that there was a reason why you mix the shows canon and the book canon, is it because there are parts in both that you don't like, or something?

Also how do you think each of the yandere Bridgertons would react if they find out that their spouses match their energy?

So yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. There are aspects of both books and the show that I dislike, so I make my own canon by mixing the two. The biggest thing I tend to leave out is the Queen. I don't really care for how the writers use her character as it mainly has to do with the fact that the writers have turned her into this deus ex machina that makes everything better because true love. I much prefer the books approache where the ton figures out their own shit. I know it's gonna happen next season, too, because we're gonna have the Whistledown vs. the Queen showdow as the writers have been building up. I'm hopeful, though, that after season 3 with the Queen Charlotte show coming out and the next three siblings love stories not being that centered in London they pull back on her character.

On to your other question I have thought long and hard about how the Bridgertons find out that their spouses are just as fucking crazy as them and this post here ( Link ) probably has to have my favorite reveal.

The kids accidentally out their non Bridgerton parents.

It's not like the spouses were really hiding it on purpose, by the time they got married it was a habit. Obviously the children knew, but the children didn't know their non Bridgerton parents to be anything different. After all both their parents gave lessons in crazy.

Their children are going to one day ask their Bridgerton parent for yandere advice and then look confused or dissatisfied by the Bridgerton parents' answers. "Nevermind I'll just ask Mom/Dad. I forgot they out crazy you and have way better methods when it comes to killing/weapons/driving someone insane/manipulation/stealing/torture/clean up."

Immediately the Bridgerton parents yank back their kids and demand to know what they're talking about.

Anthony learns the story of how his wife permanently ended a singer's career, who also happened to be one of his past mistresses, after she ripped out the singer's vocal cords. How she used her title to her advantage to protect her family, after all it would be rather rude to turn down a personal invite from a viscountess would it not?

Benedict learns how his wife had not only broke a rival artist's hand, but also cut a few fingers off and burned down the rival's art studio. How she used her knowledge from her time as a maid to find secret accesses into the homes of those who have wronged her family.

Yeah Colin knows his wife was Lady Whistledown but did he know how far her well of information went? Did he know she forever ruined several lords who made moves against her family? Sometimes just by leaving the right information in the right hands.

Daphne learns that her husband had beaten a lord to disfigurement after he made unsavory jokes about her. She also learns why her husband makes those random visits to the pig farms in his territory.

Eloise learns about about how her husband drove others to insanity after comments were made about Eloise's non bio connection to the twins, something that hurt Eloise at the time. Eloise found out why there was so many poisons plants at the ready, or how her siblings and in-laws had so many as well.

Francesca had a feeling that there was more to her husband than what he showed, something more like her. After all he was the one to encourage her darker impulses, showed her how to be wicked. Though she was pleased to learn that he used his charming ways to manipulate others to cause their own end or to self destruct.

Gregory learns his wife has a thing for torture. When the other spouses need certain information his wife is the one to step in to force it out of people through force.

Hyacinth learns her husband has an eye for sparkly things and sticky fingers. If someone tries to do their family wrong her husband is sent to make sure the offending lord has only that title to his name.

So I could see how they react going a few ways, first I think it would be denial. All these years of marriage and children and now the Bridgertons are learning their soulmates actually match their energy? After they had time to sit on it I think they would probably think that their spouses crazy was hot and probably fall more in love with them now knowing they're just like them.

Then the Bridgertons want to know how good their spouses were at hunting. They ask their children to be quiet about this for a little while until they had a chance to surprise their non Bridgerton parents. During the next family trip to Aubrey Hall a game of manhunt was suggested during night time. The Bridgertons would be the hunted while their spouses would be the hunters.

Each Bridgerton was captured by their spouse.

Now they kinda wanted to see what their spouses would do if they made them jealous on purpose.

when did mike's pyromania first manifest, and did it cause him problems in his youth (i.e setting fires and getting in trouble for it)

so first off i'm probably not going to say anything that's new to you sidney, but for people who aren't into it, pyromania / pathological fire setting is not super well defined or understood by medicine; it's a very broad term that covers a lot of conditions that cause fire setting. i've seen definitions that exclude mania and psychotic episodes, but treatment designed around both, and literature that draws close links between the latter and pathological fire setting specifically. i'm not gonna get into the evaluation part of it because i'm still doing research, but just to preface, i'm drawing partially from what's focused on in the four factor fire scale / firesetting questionnaire. u of kent's recent research on this is generally publicly available.

so i don't know that i would even technically class michael as a pathological fire starter, in that it's not the most prominent of his issues and the fires we see him set seem to be well-thought-out and intentional. that said, he strongly hits the 'personal identification with fire' aspect of the scale. i just want to draw a distinction between like... fire being mike's preferred m.o. being a headcanon of mine, and me using canon to say that he's a pathological fire setter. i don't think his two known instances of setting fires / participating in setting fires constitute compulsive or pathological acts in and of themselves, as they simply make sense on their own for getting rid of an offensive building and The Killer. because we get so little for michael in fnaf, i choose to connect him with fire, and i also think it's a double-edged sword — he's highly flammable and fire can permanently kill him, so he can't just do whatever with it; so the compulsions i think he has are tempered by fear of accidentally melting or self-immolating. i think that's an extra factor that other fire setters usually don't share, created by the supernatural elements present in the story.

moving on to my actual headcanons, i think he had a childhood fascination with fire spurred in part by other people making comparisons for him — hotheaded, hot-tempered, short fuse, firebrand, etc. it worked its way into his psychology and first manifested as sneaking cigarettes. he enjoyed lighting them, watching them burn out, the smell of smoke, and the sensation of smoking them ( specifically the sort of acrid taste and feeling in the mouth and lungs ). he grew to like putting them out as well, and the small fires he could start by doing so. i already believe he liked to hang out at the dump ( this is an it / donnie darko reference, we must have our 80s representation ), so it provided him with ample opportunity to start lots of small scale fires. it never escalated past that; he never set fires at school, for example, though he may have been tempted to. he also never set them at work, because electrical fires are sort of a different beast to him and william drilled into his head how dangerous those are. his pride as a mechanic prevents him from setting them. at home, he channels it by being in charge of cooking and the fireplace and is usually satisfied by the flames on the stove.

writing this out has me like wow this is actually his best-managed issue. he has so much going on with his temper and physical altercations that he doesn't really have room for arson. his go-to is always punching and he's psychotic and terrified of going to jail, so it never escalates to revenge fires. but i think he deeply emotionally connects with fire in a few different ways:

the act of destruction. it is cathartic for him to watch something be reduced to nothing, specifically by burning. sparks and ashes appeal to him. contrast with william's affinity for bones and blood as a means of disposal; michael definitely has these as a motif, and is an eleven on the body horror scale of course, but in terms of what he likes, he would see fire as vastly preferable to getting crunched in an animatronic. he acknowledges that it is probably immensely painful and an awful way to go, but on a psychological level, he sees it as less messy and more permanent than other forms of physical trauma.

heat and unpredictability. the way that fire moves and spreads and soaks up oxygen and repels people from it feels very personal to michael. i often describe him as having burning synapses, or a mind on fire, because i think that's how he experiences his own psychosis. his neural forest is being razed. he experiences internal activation and discomfort as heat and dryness, and so when he sees fire, that feels like an externalisation of his feelings. as someone who is kind of shit at expressing himself in a healthy way, fire becomes a sort of shortcut for having to convey distress.

control. as a person with minimal control over his own life, setting a fire is an act of rebellion and an assertion of power. because what the fuck are they going to do about it? he decides what gets destroyed ( to a degree ), he makes it happen, he has the lighter and he can threaten to drop it at any moment. and what he burns is, well, burned. that's extensive damage that's going to be around for a while. it's going to have a psychological and monetary cost to fix. it's going to scar. the damage has to be acknowledged in some way — in a way that the damage being done to michael rarely is. it is an extremely effective way of forcing people to listen to him.

this has gotten long but. basically. no he didn't get in trouble because he was too busy getting in trouble for things like brother murder and assaulting customers, and that cycle didn't often leave room for things like setting fires either as attention seeking or vengeful behaviour. instead it mostly manifested as self-soothing. i think he burned his hands on the stove and oven a lot semi-intentionally. i think his friends were very worried about the dump fires. i think that, while the fright and simulator fires make sense outside of mike being into arson, they also serve as a manifestation of his feelings, the ultimate impossible-to-ignore fuck you, this is how i feel ( fright ) and fuck you, these things are gone forever and you can't hurt them anymore ( simulator ). they made him feel powerful. he just needs to be careful because he's 2x weak to fire.

This was actually kind of hard because my lovely readers have been very good at noticing all the shiny parts I particularly want them to notice (in terms of lines and stuff), so there isn’t exactly any area that makes me want to point and yell “Look! See how clever I was there!” It’s also a bit hard because so much of what I do is just canon rewrite, so the kicks I get out of my stories are just me wallowing about happily in the color of my prose (to quote a professor’s critique of my work) rather than any great plot movements or choices that need explaining.

That being said, there’s one part of The One Who Takes I want to mention:

But there were nights when neither a new game nor an old book could hold him, and he would go out alone, coming back with the scent of other people’s fear and other people’s blood under his cologne. And there were nights when he merely lay on the sofa and drank glass after glass of that throaty, bubbly drink from the airplane, which made his eyes go dark and slack as though he were falling down from the brightly lit apartment to somewhere deep and empty inside himself. As she poured out cascades of golden liquid on his command, she wondered if everyone else in this city carried caverns in their chests that they never showed to anyone. She knew she didn’t, not anymore. When she finally decided to run away from home, the first thing she did was implode the most important ones, to bring down the roofs and fill the cavities with rubble, and she no longer cared to look at what lay buried in the wreckage.

When I wrote this, I immediately sent excited screenshots of it to @blackcatwalking (my treasured first reader) because I knew I found the soul of the story. It was a moment of framing both of the characters at a distance, half Yu-ri’s POV and half-omniscience. We learn something about Rang (he has bad coping mechanisms) and it suggests a very characteristic attitude for the girlies to imagine. We learn something about Yu-ri (she has a superior attitude scorn and thinks she was smart enough to avoid this human way of being hurt) that will inevitably change. And the image of the internal caverns was an unintended homage to Virginia Woolf and her advice for building well-rounded characters. Though accidental, it worked both within the world and in a metanarrative way: Yu-ri was killing her old self by collapsing the cavern of her past. But I was also killing the cavern of Yu-ri as written in canon by making her my own. Every fanfic writer’s first act of creation is destruction.

I know there are objectively better and more interesting moments in the story, but this passage was when I had the aha moment that I was doing the thing, the thing was happening, the Frankenstein monster was beginning to breathe. I get that infrequently enough, but when it does come, it reminds me that yeah actually this writing thing is pretty cool after all.

Ok, I've been thinking a lot lately...and I've had some thoughts, thoughts of how a certain Godzilla incarnation could be placed in the Monsterverse and not look out of place at all.

Godzilla Gemstone

I'm having the idea of a separate continuity, separate from Abraxas (to prevent any chaos stemming from going with that), and even the canon Monsterverse (to an extent), with a Monsterverse timeline that is somewhat canon-complacent, yet not. For one, Godzilla in this is a quite a bit more haughty, full of himself, and has an inkling of the idea that he is a deity. This was quite prevalent in his youth, only Dagon's lessons tempered it, and even then Godzilla liked to show his superiority to beings weaker than himself with bullying & intimidation.

As the eons passed, Godzilla grew, and whilst he does get his canonical personality, he never exactly got out of the "I'm better" phase, even after he gained symbiosis with Mothra, due to never exactly being properly humbled in his youth by that Kong because he chose a different spot to make his temporary home.

Thus, when the events of 2014 come to pass, he's very destructive, not necessarily giving a crap about human cities during his fight with the MUTOs, which is an early hint that he's not exactly as careful (or even as moral) as canon Godzilla is.

2019, he takes the threat of Ghidorah seriously, but he also has no compunction wrecking everything that stands between him and his nemesis, and even accidentally ends up killing Madison when he aimed slightly lower during his first strike against Ghidorah in Boston. During the symbolic crowning scene, the Titans don't just bow to him out of respect, they bow to him out of fear since the last time a Titan tried to disrespect him, they got their head gruesomely torn off. Rodan in particular is inches of being grabbed by the neck, but Godzilla remembering Mothra could reincarnate saves the Fire Demon's life.

During Vs Kong, he genuinely causes collateral damage during his search of Mechagodzilla's signal (sinking cruise line ships & civilian buildings are destroyed), is somewhat more antagonistic towards Kong, and even was actually going to kill him until he randomly remembered Mechagodzilla's signal, and spared Kong by chance instead of mercy. He only vaguely acknowledges Kong in the aftermath.

And finally, in The New Empire, he's a tad bit more brutal in killing Scylla, with him tearing off all her legs before crushing her shell underfoot instead of using his atomic breath. Tiamat isn't as lucky either, as Godzilla used his dorsal plates to slice into her skin when she tried to ram him, basically disemboweling her and leaving Tiamat to slowly die in agony. While the film goes on as normal, Kong, Suko, and even Mothra have a subtle sense of unease when they were in Godzilla's presence, but they don't know why.

Post-TNE, and things are as peaceful as can be...until a burst of blue light flashes underwater, and a new presence would shake the foundations of this Monsterverse timeline forever....
